Maddron Cemetery |
One of only a few marked stones. Inscribed with Madron 1877. The heart along with the weave-like decoration seem child-like and are quite beautiful. |
This rock pile shows the way to the cemetery from the OST. |
A broken stone whose name I couldn't make out with the born date of March 27, 1873 and a death date of April 1, 1873. |
The cemetery is located off The Old Settlers Trail. From the Maddron Bald Trailhead, its a 1.2 mile walk along a wide roadbed uphill to the trail junction with the OST to the right. At .3 of a mile, there's a pile of rocks (pictured above) signifying the side trail to the cemetery.
The spelling on the small stone with the heart (above) seems to be missing a 'd' but most likely that was the correct spelling for the time and over the years the spelling changed as with many in the park.
Unfortunately, there is very little information about this cemetery that I was able to find.
There is a nice blog on GoSmokies.com here.
Who's here?
All burials are unknown.
