Carson-Messer Cemetery

Carson-Messer Cemetery
Barbed wired still stands in protection of the stones

Flowers recently left at one of the headstones

The cemetery is located on The Boogerman Loop Trail. About 3.8 miles from the Caldwell Fork Trailhead, there is an unmarked access trail to the right that leads up about 180 yards or so to the cemetery.

Also known as the Messer Cemetery, the cemetery is not exactly inviting at first look. Four unmarked stones surrounded by barbed wire. It is believed that two of the Messer's children are buried here. There's also a belief that a third grave is that of an unknown Civil War soldier. Other tales claim an unknown woman is buried here alongside two Civil War soldiers.

Who's here?

All unknown.

Thanks for visiting this page. If you have any additional information about this, or any other, cemetery in the Smokies, please let me know.

Keep on creepin' and always be respectful!
